Review |
The book offers a full in depth coverage of all Kittel steam rail cars ever built. It not easy though to get a complete overview of types and number built. The information is contained in the book but the reader will to enumerate these data himself. The photo's are of good quality and well chosen. The author also mentions further developments and derivatives from the Kittel rail car. The author shows a distinct and thorough knowledge of the subject. He is obviously fascinated by the Esslingen Locomotive builder in general and the Kittel railcar in particular and consequently fails to point out that the railcar, though maybe a sound design at the time, proved a failure and could not change the tide of transition to diesel or electric power. Maybe because of this enthusiasm this book is a fitting monument for a brave attempt to innovate steam and also tribute to Esslingen's ingenious head constructor Eugen Kittel. |
