The Netherlands knew very few inclines and rolling stock of tramways were generally very light. Consequently eight-couplers were rare. One type exactly and this one was of the Klien-Lindner semi-articulated type to allow for the extremely tight curves on the lines.
It saw service on the Geldersche Stoomtramweg-Maatschappij (GSTM) in the area around Doetinchem. Four engines were built in 1913 (road numbers 16-17), 1923 (23) and 1930 (26).
A five page article in "De Ingenieur", a magazine of the Royal Institute of Engineers, Volume 29, 1914, Issue No 1 (starting from page 3), described the loco in detail.
These locomotives were only suited for slow goods trams. They had the extremely low axle load of just 4.2 tons. Despite of having of having a wheelbase of just 2.90 m it was found useful to design the first and the fourth axle as a Klien-Lindner axle, resulting in a fixed wheel base of a mere 1.3 m.
The locos were sold for scrap 1957 at the discontinuation of the Tramway.
