SBB freight locomotive C 5/6

Swiss steam locomotives in general are not really in my scope but I always liked this engine. When I incidentally saw a Roco HO scale model in need of some TLC at a bargain price on eBay in 2019 I could not resist.

So there it is. It is a typical 1980's model. Don't expect the miracle of the latest technology, but if you don't it is a lovely model to have.

Cost €60 plus €18 shipping from Germany, in original packaging, but inoperable and the fault reported as "Motor hums but loco does not move". I had a stroke of luck before in such cases. I bought a BR43 and a Bavarian BBII for ridiculous prices and with an hour I had them running.

With this one my luck ran out. What was supposed to to be a rainy Saturday afternoon job turned into more or less a open heart surgery for an Elephant

Status of the project

8 August 2019

I now have a running locomotive again. Until further notice work on the loco has been suspended as I want to continue with NBDS 119 and Fairlie Merddin Emrys before starting LTM 51 in HO.

Work remaining is mainly

sorting out a better fixture of the coal load in the tender
turning the wheels to RP25 norm
and blackening them.

In forward is screeches a little. It sounds terrible on the video but it is not all that bad in reality. In reverse it runs silky smooth
